From the Founder

Thank you for visiting Aubrey's Song Foundation, Inc. As the founder of Aubrey's Song Foundation I wanted to let you know a little behind the thought process that led to this foundation. So, I've written a few words to try to put on paper, what I've felt in my heart.

We really appreciate your visit and your support. All support is welcome including monetary as well as prayers.

Those who know me know that I am one who is not afraid to show my emotions. I tend to "rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep." Romans 12:15 So, I well remember the night that we drove to Aubrey's apartment to be with our dear friends Darriel and Marilyn. Oh how I wish that this event had never taken place, and even though those of us familiar with all that had transpired were "expecting" this call someday, you can ever really be prepared.

The moment we received the call, my breath was literally taken away from me. For a moment I could not speak and really felt like I would not be able to take another breath!

While I am not truly an uncle to the Clark kids, they felt like nieces and a nephew to me and I believe they kind of viewed me in this way. Perhaps more so when they were growing up than in recent years, but nevertheless, we felt a special bond with the Clark family and this was a real blow to our family.

My son, Chris, much like a close cousin, perhaps even like a big brother, to Ben, Aubrey and Erica, was devastated as well. Chris is a creative person and upon leaving the apartment that evening went home and wrote a song to and about Aubrey. It was entitled "Aubrey's Song." The lyrics are posted on this site if you care to download them.

Chris recorded the song at a recording studio and it was played at the memorial service for Aubrey. It was very moving, not just because my son wrote it, but because of what it said, and how he sang it. He is a man of few words, so you can bet that when he says something like that, he means from the bottom of his heart.

I spent a lot of time with the Clarks the first few days and that song played over and over in my mind and on my MP3 Player. I even put together a Power Point show with the lyrics and pictures.

It is my firm belief that God put a burden on my heart to do something to try to help others so that no other family would ever have to suffer this kind of pain ever again. I believe He gave me the idea, the name and the courage to approach the family with this idea.

Thus Aubrey's Song Foundation was born out of despair but in hope. Despair over the pain that my friends were going through, and that I was feeling too, but hope that through this loss, God would work some great work in the lives of others.
